Vintage Cannondale Bugger II Bicycle Trailer for Sale. Made in the early 1980’s in the USA with a solid molded plastic body, a tubular metal frame and 20” wheels. Easily clamps to the seat post of most adult bikes. Can carry up to 2 children (with the buckle strapping) or can be used for hauling gear. It measures approximately 30.5” wide by 64” long. Used, but in good condition. Below is a bit of history of the Bugger bicycle trailer… Like many such companies, Cannondale didn't start out as a bicycle manufacturer. In the late 1960's, Joe Montgomery was a self-described "grunt" on Wall Street. The experience, he later related, taught him how businesses work. Always an avid outdoorsman, he saw a growing enthusiasm for hiking, camping and related activities -- and foresaw the North American Bike Boom. He knew he wanted to build bikes but didn't have the necessary capital. So, when he started his company out of the Cannondale train station (in Wilton, Connecticut) in 1971, he knew he had to develop and market a product that would distinguish his new enterprise as well as help him raise the money he'd need to build bikes. The first bicycle related product he produced was the (unintentionally) cheekily named 'Bugger' bike trailer, inspired by a weekend camping trip. It was the world's first manufactured bicycle-towed trailer. The first Bugger trailers were constructed of fabric and a tubular frame. Because it was mounted on an angle, it transferred all the weight carried to its tires and didn't add to the weight of the bicycle. It was intended simply as a utility trailer. The second & third versions of the trailer (the Bugger II & III) was constructed of a solid moulded plastic body with a tubular metal frame and was designed to carry up to two children with seat belts. However, because the body was so robust, it quickly became an ideal utility trailer for campers and alike.
